Fine sandbed & Diamond goby

I recently added a diamond goby in hope to keep the my fine sand bed clean. From the time he is in the tank, I see my tank cloudy!
Other than changing the sand bed or removing the goby, is there any other solution to this mishap!

Are you certain that the cloudiness in the tank is from the sand?

Yes, positive. I can see the damn goby digging and raising the sand over & the MP40s take it from there...

I am curious to hear the answer to this. i just put 200lbs of Caribsea Fiji Pink in a new tank and we WILL be getting the same Goby. I would think the two 4" socks in my sump and the skimmer should deal with it. How new is your tank?

Your Goby is doing his job, sifting the sand bed. I will say that it took 2mo for the super fine particles that the goby stirs up to get filtered out. I used a filter sock during that period and it helps.

These gobies are the absolute best sand sifters around! They are always going to be sifting sand, it's going to be something you probably have to deal with unfortunately... On the plus side, your sand bed will sparkle :)

Is this going to be an issue for fungia or clams. I am planning to add some of these in future in the sand bed...!

The silty super fine particles will end up on EVERYTHING for a WHILE. And if you have a deeper sandbed, more can always come up. But over time it will get "better"

Kind of an off topic question I have one in my tank as well that did the same thing, cleared up after a couple weeks. But now periodically he is carrying mouthfuls up to my Koralia and spitting them in as if it is a game for him. How damaging is that the pump, should I be worried about him damaging it?

LOL! That's hilarious... I would love to see a video of this.

I have one in my 29 gallon nano. The fine particles will settle but here is the truth. You will have sand all over your rocks and class an zoas and everything always. You will have to blow detritus more often off your rocks. If sand builds up to much, it will be easier for algae and cyano and everything to clog up. That is my personal experience and although I do love my Goby because it has to be one of the fish with the best personalities, I am thinking twice about moving him to my 280 galls, where I am moving everything... Sad :( it does clean the sand but dirties everything else.

My Orange Diamond Goby doesnt deposit sand on any of the rocks, just the bottom, I dont even think I have seen him swim more than 1inch above the sandbed.

I have seen other species of Goby swim to top and release the sand, covering rocks, coral, etc.

It unfortunately takes awhile. But its worth the wait... he will keep the sand nice and clean looking. Althogh if its super fine sand it will take longer and depending on the flow, could always be a bit annoying.

The cloudiness will get better after a while. Same happened for me with my goby.

As for the sand in the power head, it shouldn't harm it. But I'd have to see a video to be sure!
