I recently upgraded to a 120 gal tank and got a complete setup. The lights that came with the tank are retrofitted to a canopy. These consist of 2 250W MH, 2 T5s and a LED strip. The T5s and LED strip work fine. However, the halides are a little finicky. Sometimes one would work, or none, or both. They both use a dual magnetic ballast from Catalina Aquariums. Sometimes unplugging them and switching them works, but more often than not, only one or none would light up.
Is my ballast defective? Or the halides? Or the bulbs? I'm sure it's an old ballast. I went to the Catalina Aquariums site and did not find it there. The owner still had his old bulbs so that's what I've been testing and I'm getting frustrated. If there's an easy fix I might consider it. Otherwise, I will end up ditching them.
I am new to halides and don't know if I'm doing something wrong by switching them and turning them off/on without any waiting period. I read somewhere that 30 minutes should pass before I turn on a MH light again?
Thanks!!
