Hi all, semi new here, lurked a bit.
Anyhow, came across a used biocube on Craigslist a while ago, picked up the deal , stand, cube, upgraded filter, protein skimmer, upgraded LED's for 250! How could I say no?!

Anyhow, added another Ecoxitic stunner, giving me one UV stunner, one white stunner, and one blue/magenta light ( ecoxitic, the bigger ones, can't remember the name), also added a Vortech MP10, and bought a RO/DI unit.
Who would have thought this was going to be an expensive hobby :lolspin:

Started with two black clowns and a cleaner shrimp. Added a small blue tang that will probably be in there for a year and then will be re-homed ( only fish the wife REALLY wanted - had to make her happy )

I picked up a blue spot jawfish yesterday at the LFS after debating on spending the money for quite some time, read alot about them, decided to pull the trigger after ordering the Fish Saver from InTank.
Man, I love that fish! So much personality!

The clowns and tang stay up in that corner unless it's feeding time, not sure why, I am trying now, at the advice of LFS to turn down the vortech to the first notch and see if that makes them swim around... maybe it's too strong?

Anyhow, I got some corals from someone local, he had a gorgeous setup, with 6 biocubes, a 240, 90 and 75 gallon tank. It was like a zoo!

I may add one more piece of coral later on down the line, but my wallet is smoking now!

I am a video producer by trade, so of course I had to add some photos & video.

Video is two parts - first part was last night as he settled in and made his cave ( hand held - sorry - didn't think he'd start to soon! ), second part was this morning at feeding time. - No I don't usually feed that much, I bought a new food and didn't realize how condensed it was!

Enjoy! - Clowns names are "Todd Crane" and "Auntie Kris" , Tang is "Wu" , Shrimp is "Bruiser" and the Jawfish is "Lord Disick" - yes, my wife named them :)

Love the Blue spot jaw fish! One of my favorites. That tang is so small! Keep in mind blue hippos grow fast. It'll probably completely outgrow that tank in a few months. Most people will tell you take it out now which wouldn't be a bad idea. Anyway enough about your tang as far as your mp10 what is it running at? Mine runs about 40% on reef crest all the time and that's in a nuvo 16 and my clowns love it. They're always swimming into the current.

Figured the tang would be good for 6 months or so - we'll see, shouldn't be hard to get out when it's time, as he sleeps right on the top of the rocks :)

The MP10 I had at around 40%, but at the advice of LFS I have it almost off now to see if the clowns will venture out of that upper corner.

Side note - after moving the mp10 and turning down the flow, my xenia have completely withered up and droop. I'm hoping they come back around.

Xenia can be funny like that. I have no scientific evidence of this but I think they adapt to an environment and like it that way. Mine in a different tank(standard 10 gallon) are in basically no flow and they're happy as can be. My friends are in his 29 gallon standard tank getting blasted by a power head 24/7 and love it. They should get back to normal. Couple questions though are you doing anything to keep the alk and calcium high or just doing water changes?

I'm adding calcion as my calcium was just a tad low when I brought my water into lfs. Hoping that the fish come out of the corner in the near future :)

Welcome! Strong little workers aren't they, those jawfish?
Great video, thanks for sharing. The tank looks like it's off to a great start. I wouldn't have passed on a deal like that either, haha.

Why the 3 other fish are up in the corner I'm not sure, maybe others will chime in. I would want to know what your water parameters are at? Mainly the Ph, Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia & Alkalinity.
I'd start there. Don't think calcium has a thing to do with it.
Have the 3 other fish been doing this since the Jawfish addition, or was it previously noted as well? Also, where the clowns doing this themselves, prior to the tang addition?
Powerhead flow might be the cause but, IMO unlikely. Did you turning it down have any results? (....besides making your xenia look like death lol)

Regarding "Wu", the tang.....

I'd return it to the LFS or buy the wife a bigger tank ;)

Had the water tested, everything was mint just calcium a little low and some phosphates. I added a bag of phosguard and upped the calcium a little. The clowns have always been in that corner and the tang just stays there with them. Power head flow when turned down made no difference. Maybe that's just where all the cool fish hang out.
Ya the tang will be going to the LFS in a few months, hopefully by then she will have gotten it out of her system and we will get something more 29g friendly.
I knew I'd catch flac about the tang :)
I'm well aware that when he grows up a bit that it's much too small for him, teaching my wife as we go.

I forgot to add that I noticed aptasia in your zoanthid frag, making them close. I'd get some type of aptasia destroyer and get it before it spreads.

Ah one last thing, opinions on putting a rose anenome in the tank? Worried about my corals.

People have done it before. As far as stinging corals it's a chance you take. But I would let the tank get a little more established before you put an anenome in. I say at least 3 months some people say 6 months some say I year. It's your call though.

Tank is off to a nice start. LOVE the Blue Spot Jawfish. I was just about to order one for my Solana but then I read that you shouldn't even consider one if your sandbed is less than 4" or so. How deep is your bed?

Loved the video and it made me want one again bad! Loved how he kicked the hermit out of his den at about the 6:58 mark. I could watch that guy all day.

Ya, I watch him quite often, the hermit crab was great :)

My sandbed is about 2.5" deep, with some crushed coral on top, but he found himself a nice hole under my live rock, right where I wanted him to be.

Last week or so the Xenia's have shriveled up and look like they are about on the way out.
Happened right after adjusting the power head and adding some Phosphate remover.
Maybe the water is too clean for them, no clue, my skimmer hardly skims anything.
Water parameters are perfect, everything else is doing great.

Have you tried moving them to another spot again?
Xenia can be weird. I have seen small colonies do what you are describing with water parameters in check, too.

Xenia finally melted away - oh well :(
Got some Joe's to clear out the aptasia
Also - the fish have finally started cruising the tank. Yesterday the jawfish was all around the rock work and the tang was not happy - laying on his head actually. Pretty funny.

Just ordered another ecoxotic panorama pro in 8k to even out the purple tint that is being cast from the blue/red unit, along with the controller they sell to get some dimming - night lights.

That Jawfish reaaaly wants to jump. He goes in spurts of crusing the surface looking for an escape lately.
Hopefully the Fishkeepr from INtank, and the Biocube lid that I have on there keeps him in, I would hate to look back at this thread sadly.
