Fire anemone ?.

I think that's Actinodendronidae family. extremely sticky. friend had one for awhile, about 6" across and 8" emperor went in and that's the end of that fish... careful with tankmates. handle with glove once the nem get healthy again.

Yes that's a fire anemone/hells fire anemone. I recently did a lot of research on these because my lfs has one too that I wanted to get. From what I gathered they have a VERY strong sting, bad enough to hurt humans like they were burned by fire, hence the name. There are multiple different species, I'll include the best link I found for identifying them. Bottom line, it's an awesome anemone if you like different and dangerous stuff like I do, but be very careful when handling it and always wear gloves and arm protection, I read one story where a guy got stung through two layers of some kind of plastic I can't remember exactly. Also consider ANYTHING that touches it inside your tank to be eaten. Did you get that from coral logic btw? Just realized you are in yulee which is pretty close. It looks like the same one I wanted.

be very very careful - a friend of mine has one and it stings like fire! it will leave welts and it hurts for some time.
They are amazing - but IMO unless it's in a species dedicated tank they can be very dangerous to corals, fish and inverts.

Yes I got it from coral logics in Jacksonville. Price seemed pretty good.i wore gloves when I put it in te tank because the guy there told me it stung the **** out of him. I had a coral banded shrimp walk right across him last night and he was fine but I didn't think it was going to go well..lol. Thanks got all the replies guys, when I searched I didn't see anything that looked like so it had me curious. He is pretty cool and I'm hoping he doesn't move around too much. He's been on the same piece of live rock since coral logics got him and has yet to stray.

the shrimp is fine, most likely is because the nem still stress, once the nem settle in and getting healthier will be a different story. careful with handling such animal.

After hearing some of the comments I'm not so sure brave is the word ..lol. He seemed so peaceful at the lfs..I have mostly a reef setup with reef friendly fish and all corals are a good distance away but now I'm nervous..

They are very peaceful.... Until something makes the mistake of touching it. I'm actually glad you got it because last week I was trying to set up a tank for it (I would have kept it in a species tank). It will be fine as long as you don't touch it, but it's a very real possibility that it will eat your fish and inverts, and any coral that falls in it consider it a goner. Now when I was doing my research about them I did notice that some people said theirs didn't have a powerful sting, so hopefully it's one of the less potent species. If you do decide to get rid of it please let me know first.

I had one for a while. It was an awesome nem in that it was unusual and nobody else really had one. I always used gloves if or when I ever handled mine. Eventually it decided to take a walk into one of my vortechs. It really didn't ever hurt any of the corals around it when it moved next to them.

I'd probably buy another one if I saw one locally again. Yours has an outstanding color to it.

If it doesn't work out I'll let you know first. He's all swelled back out today already. Hope he doesn't go out walking around and likes it where he is..

Two vortech mp10's and a single AI sol super blue. In a 60 cube.you can see in the pic they had other corals really close to it. Guess my biggest concern will be if he decides to move, my wife's concern is her flame fin tang and clowns...here he is today, iPad pic sorry for the quality

Second night in the tank he moved a bit, I put him back and tried to figure what may have made him unhappy.. Only thing I could think was at night my vortechs go into sleep mode. He may not have liked it, turned it off last night and he's still in the same place today all laid out..hopefully he's happy right where I put him. Also installed the foam guards on my vortechs just in case he goes on another walkabout in the middle of the night
