sup' folks.

picked up a nice crocea today... what do y'all feed them? DT's? placed it on bottom on a nice flat base rock. Just a brief newbie rundown would be great . thanks

How big is the clam? If it is under 3 inches, you will need to target feed it several times per week, as the mantle is not big enough to really support the nutritional requirements. As to what to feed it, basically the same thing you target feed your corals with should do.

You can place it directly on the sand at the bottom of the tank and it will be fine.

Smaller clams require feeding IMO. Live phytoplankton is preferred. Some dry(ESV) will work if blended.
Target feeding is easy. Large particles are not consumed by clams. So 'target' foods or other commercial products~Coralife(derived from shrimp, spirulina and such) will not work. They are used to feed anemones and LPS corals etc and particles are too big.
Zooplankton(rotifers) are more readily consumed by hard corals.

Just for clarification.. you are feeding the clams LIVE phytoplankton a few times a week..?

Can you buy this from the LFS or do you have to grow it yourself?

Any other options?

Best option for clam feeding is Live phytoplankton, followed by freeze dried (ESV)2nd- IMO.
Live varieties are everywhere such as commercial products(DT's, liquidbiolife) noncommercial(homegrown) are available on the boards & all over ebay.
