First corals!

I recently purchased 3 Zoa frags as my first corals and although they looked good healthy in the store, they dont seem to be doing to good in my DT.

The tank is a 28 nano and has been running for about 2 1/2 months. All parameters are good and the rest of the livestock seems to be doing well.

I just started adding trace elements thinking this may help and will be purchasing a Korilia powerhead today to add some more flow to the tank.

How can I tell if these things are dead or not??

Any other suggestions on ways to help them along would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks!

A picture would help to see how they are looking...

Other than that, they are probably just adjusting to your tank and its params. Some have been known to stay closed for weeks after being introduced into a new environment.

I would not dose trace elements unless you are testing for them... with water changes, you should be fine for what the zoas need. I agree with Dalston that they may take some time to open. They will likely receed if they are dying, otherwise, they may just be shy for now.

LFS was running MH's, I have CF's that are providing me about 5 watts per gallon. I also tried moving them about the tank at different levels and light areas...but to no avail.

I dont think their dead cause they show some signs of life every now and then.

I just bought a Korilia PH to increase the flow in the tank....gonna wait and see.

Thanks

This is part of the issue, they don't like to be constantly held and moved, especially when acclimating to their new home. Start them off at the bottom of your tank in good indiret flow and leave them be. Once they have opened up after a while, then you can gradually move them up and out to where you want them.
