First Crocea

Yesterday I got my first clam!!! I know croceas' are one of the most difficult clams to keep, but I think i'm up to the challenge. I acclimated it for like 2 hrs. yesterday. It opened right up. This morning it opened up as much as it was in the store and looks really good. I've done extensive research on this clam and waited 2 yrs before getting it to make sure that my water quality was as good as it can get. I was just wondering if anyone has had any succses with these clams and if you have any tips for me.

P.S. I have placed it in the sand to start with so as not to shock it too much with the bright light. It is about 25 total inches from the 150 W HQI, directly under it. Is it ok to leave it there or will I have to move it up? I have heard conflicting info on this subject.

i have a crocea that is under 150 watt HQI DE, and he is sitting about half way up the tank, on a rock... he moves himself around when he does not like how much light he is getting or how much flow.... they require gentle flow....

Mbbuna, i will be upgrading lighting soon to a 250 watt SE halide setup, is there anything sifferent i should do compared to say an sps coral to acclimate to the new light?

do it just like you would for SPS;)

Ok, I put a rock under the clam and he attached right to it. Now it is about 18in directly under the MH. Is this close enough?

thats right on the edge. if the clam darkens or hyperextends its mantle you will need to move it higher
