First Fish

Hi all

thinking of adding a clown into my NC24 (first fish) as i hear the tank bread common clowns are quite hardy.

Any other suggestions of a hardy ideal first fish.?

I did think of a chromis but heard they prefer being in a shoal.

My little Ocellaris clowns are very peaceful. I think Maroons and some of the larger ones get agressive, but Ocellaris clowns are a good start.

And its tank bred not bread. To get tank bread you need flour and yeast and turn your tank heater up to 350 degrees f.

Tank bred Clownfishes are hardy, colorful, full of personality and non aquarists recognize the fish right away (thank you Pixar).

It is a great choice.

I don't have a lot of experience with other fish, but I would imagine other damsels would fit the bill, as long as they stay smaller (3") as full adults. Mind you though, if for some reason, you wanted more than one fish (which for your system, 2 x 3" fish is probably the max), damsels are/can be quite territorial.

You might want to check out some smaller gobies.

Check out this link to Drs. Smith and Foster to get an idea on what type of fish might do well in your nano system

i got a domino damsel as my first then added a yellow tang and they seem to get along fine and are very healthy...this is my first marine tank, so if i can keep those fine you should be able to

Damsels can be pretty agressive esp when they get older they are nothing but terrors.. I wouldn't waste my time with them.

a 24 gallon tank would probably be too small for a yellow tang, as they do like to swim about a lot and there isn't much swimming room in a 24.

Kinda like swimming in a 10 yard pool, flip turn, streamline + kick, 3 strokes, flip turn......no workout in that.

a 24gal tank is deff way to small for a yellow tang..

mine swims like crazy in my 55gal tank that is the minimum size should be in. Unless he is still a baby and you plan on upgrading down the line.

I am not one to talk I have triggers that should be in a 75 in a 55 ( but they are small )
