First LPS, an acan

I went to the LFS to get a cpl shrimp and also ended up with a nice looking acan frag.
It is my first lps of any type. The lfs owner told me that my water parameters are probably about right since I have been keeping healthy sps. I was also told that many lps & sps keepers dont keep many softies due to chemical warfare. I have zoas, palys, mushrooms, and a cpl of leathers. The few sps that I have are doing very well, do you guys think that the softies will be an issue for my new acan?

Thanks in adv.

I don't know if the chemical warfare will be significant. If it's not a problem now it probably won't be with the acan.

I think the only problem you may have is acclimating it. Most sps prefer heavy intermittent flow right? Acans really don't like a lot of flow. They do well on the sandbed out of direct light for the first few days. Mine can handle a medium flow but don't really like anything more than that.

If you have some good rockwork and can find a good place for them to get adjusted to your tank I'd say you should be fine. Congrats on the new piece. Hope it takes off for you. :D

Thanks, currently the acan is on the bottom and somewhat surrounded by rocks. I placed it next to a zenia so I know that it is in an area that doesnt get too much flow. The acan seems to be happy so far, it has opened nicely and when I fed the fish this morning I could see the tenicles extending as if it were trying to grab some food.
How do you know if an acan has eaten? Also do I need to spot feed it and what do I feed it?

like any other lps they will fold their tentacles inward when feeding. most meaty types of food are ok, mysis shrimp, small pieces of silversides..mine will eat cyclops..make sue you give your shrimps something to eat first so they dont try grabbing food from your corals. i love them but ive seen them pull food from the closed mouths of my brains

Thats good. I have some frozen mysis that I will thaw and try to feed him. I just need to figure out how to get a little piece of food all the way down to him.
So far the shrimp are staying on the left side of the tank away from the acan, but I'll feed the shrimp and the fish at the same time I try to feed the acan.
Thanks
