First Macro Shots

Now that I finally got a macro lens for x-mas, I had time to snag a couple pics.

Nikon D90
Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di

Keep in mind I'm still fairly new to photography in general. I have a good understanding of the big 3(shutter,aperture,ISO), though I am still learning their proper use for the best images.

Any tips are very welcome.

The first shot looks nice. The second could be more desirable.
I would look into the rule of thirds when it comes to photography. Centering the subject right in the middle of the photo makes it look kind of plain. Maybe if you shot it at a different angle from the stem towards the tip it would be more visually enjoyable.
