first pump spill - Yay!! Pipe clamp question?

Last night while watching a movie I heard a wierd noice coming from the tank. The pipe for the return pump fell off the pump and was shooting water from the sump half way up to the display tank causing a major spill.

I was wondering if there are any sort of pipe clamps that can be used under water in a reef aquarium? I know the SS ones are a no-no, but the plastic ones that just squeeze together didn't hold the pipe.

Any suggestions will help, otherwise I will be on my way to Lowes after work to see what I can find. I will be building a safety cover for that area of the sump as well after this. If it does fall off in the future I don't want a major spill. I was lucky to be right there when it happened...

If you are talking about a vinyl pipe then try using zip ties. I use black zip ties to hold all my vinyle plumbing together. In fact Zip Ties have a ton of uses for the Reef.

i use just a tight hose ...ive seen loads of people use zip ties aswell...whoever invented them...good job they have surved from anything to riot gear and handcuffs to electrical wiring to gardening to pet keeping building.

I would just get a few PVC fitting and build an extention for the pump to raise the hose connection out of the water. You could also install a Union fitting and a Ball Valve onto the PVC pipe. You would build it so that your hose to PVC connection was out of the water and you could use any hose clamp that you wanted.
