Hello all!:lolspin:
I just started my first reef tank a couple weeks ago and decided to go ahead and get my first corals. I start with a trumpet and a green star polyp and they are both doing well. I picked up some mystery frags from a chain store the other day since they were really cheap (5 bucks each). Been there forever so they wanted them gone and I could not resist the temptation. After a dip in Bayer the two are now very happy looking 24 hours later. So now I have two more corals in my tank without a name. So if you could help me ID these two new ones to know what I got myself into and how to care for them that would be amazing.
For the first I am thinking it is Oulophyllia bennettae but anyone willing to try your best guess would be great. When I got it, it was completly closed and they said it had been for a long time. So it must like my tank
For the second I am stumped.. Put some work on it and failed.. I get the feeling it must be a very common type. :hammer:
New tank:
20 gallon Long
23 pounds of rock
20 pounds of sand
Current USA Orbit Marine LED (24") 10 hour cycle
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: ~2 I would guess by the color of API test. Working on dropping that more.
Calcium: 490
Alk: 10 dKH
Mg: 1400
pH 8.02 (Started at 7.71 and has been gradually increasing with more water agitation on top)
77.4 F
HOB filter for mechanical filtration
Working on trying to get a little sump or HOB Skimmer.
RO/DI water from a Millipore system I got for free since I work at a Lab
and Instant Ocean Reef Crystals
