So I read the instructions and set it up. However theres no foam filling up in the collection cup. Just a murky water. Is this normal for a new tank or do I have my skimmer set up wrong?
First saltwater tank. Skimmer question.

Murkey water is okay. There is usually and adjustment of some sort. On mine the collection cup can be raised or lowered but moving a rubber o-ring around the outside of the cup. It is a fine line between wet and dry skimmate on mine. What kind do you have? Maybe someone with the same kind could offer some suggestions.

I've got a red sea prizm. So yeah. It foams at the top of the collection cup but then the foam quickly turns to the murky water. Just not sure if this is how it's supposed to operate.

You'll learn to hate that skimmer... but here's some advice in the mean time. Run the bubbles low in the collection chamber. You shouldn't ever even see stuff bubbling over into the collection cup, but be surprized by how much does collect over time. You certainly shouldn't be able to watch it bubble over.

Ok play with this skimmer for awhile do some reading on what people are using I don't know what size tank you have or if you have a sump but you will be surprized of what a couple of bucks more could get you good luck
