First SPS/Monti Cap Doing OK?

kbriers

This is my first monti cap (or sps for that matter) and I was hoping some of you more experienced reefers could tell me if my new monti cap looks okay? I've had it in the tank 3-4 days now and I think it is becoming more white around the edges on maybe a little more white in a few spots on the top.

Currently I have 2 kessil a150 lights on a 40 breeder. The cap is directly below one of the lights. The light is 6-7" from waterline and the cap is 6" or so below the waterline.

Ca-450
Mg-1400
DKH-9
PO4-0.00 (have a small cyano problem currently so not sure on this accuracy)

Again, this is my first monti cap so I don't know what to look for as far as being healthy and happy.

Thanks

I would recommend moving it a bit farther away from direct light. I think I may have just killed a branching monti doing that. Most coral needs to be acclimated to high lighting over a period of days or weeks. Put it at the bottom of the tank or somewhere shaded for a few days, then slowly move it up to where you want it so the intense halide lights don't shock it. Good luck! :)
