First time fragging

This acro that had severe rot on more than half of it had to be fragged. A week later the cut part starting to have a bit if diatom on it. Is this normal? How long does it normally take for it to start growing back its tissue. Here's a pic of the coral after I fragged it. Can sum1 please give me a name for this acro. It is purple with blue hue in it. Kinda hard to see in pic. Thx!

i would have fragged the branches....

It will happen from time to time if the coral is slow to regenerate its tissue over the wound. It should eventually re-encrust over the area so that little bit of diatom growth shouldn't be a problem.

I would have but half of the coral was pretty much dead. Massive algae was growing on it so I had to cut it off to save the bottom half.
