First time plumbing - sanity check pleas

I am getting ready to do plumbing to an internal overflow for the first time and was hoping someone with a bit more experience could validate my plan, or give me some pointers if I messed something up. Going to be using the beananimal setup.

I have 3 threaded type 1" bulkheads leading into my overflow from the back of the tank. My plan is to have It coming 90° from the back of the tank down to a 45° elbow to bring it to the right a bit and then another 45° elbow and into the sump with the pipe ending about 1.5" under the sump water level. Also planning to place unions in each length of pipe to make it easier to break down if needed and possibly a valve near the bottom to close if doing maintenance in the sump.

Could you be more specific what you intend to use the three connections for? I would suggest 2 for the feed to the sump and one return from the sump to the main tank. The reason for the 2 sump ffeds is something that I struggled with for years. The noise and resultant bubbles where my concern. Use one of the drains as the primary drain, locate the termination of the pipe to be about 3"-4" below the expected water level in the main tank. Locate the other one at the surface. The latter will serve as an emergency draing should the other one get clogged. This will all but eliminate bubbles in the sump and noise. But a ball valve in each pipe to balance the flow also. The third or return can feed the main tank going up and over the overflow box. You can use link-lock fittings which can be twisted by hand.

Sounds about right for a beananimal. Terminate the drains 1" or less below the water level.

Sorry - All 3 lines will be drains to the sump. For the returns I am going to use j tubes over the lip of the tank,in the 2 back corners.

I would read up on a bean animal drain and do it like that.

That's my general plan, however with the location of my tank, setup of my sump, and room in the stand I am not able to bring the standpipes straight down - I have to bring them about 2 feet to the right and 1 foot forward of where they exit the tank.
