Tank is progressing along nicely! Finished up the plumbing and rock work this past weekend, and got her filled up tonight. There was a last minute overflow box change after the tank failed one of my emergency scenarios, but luckily I didn't have to touch any of the rock to make that happen. Everything is running great now, and tomorrow I will be adding HW salt mix and starting the cycle.
Tank is 10 days into cycling now. I have been seeding with a tiny bit of flake food each day, so far I am getting ammonia readings of right around 1.0, but no nitrites have shown up yet. Thinking I might grab a bit of live rock to throw in the sump and speed things along somewhat.
I also got my quarantine 10g tank set up. Picked up a seeded sponge filter from my LFS, and brought home a pair of percula clowns. They've been eating LRS "Reef Frenzy" at the store, so I'll be continuing them on that. They have quite the appetite!
Tank hit the one month mark for cycling, and still not quite there yet. Latest reading yesterday was:
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 2.0
Nitrate 20
Ammonia has been tapering off over the past week, while nitrite and nitrate are both climbing. Hope to see the nitrites zero off in the next week or so, and I'll get a small clean up crew started. The two clowns are doing great in quarantine, and I added a hi-fin goby and tiger pistol shrimp a few weeks ago. Everyone is eating, and looking healthy.
While I'm waiting for the tank to finish cycling, I figured I'd take a few macro shots of the hair algae that is growing in it.
