first time sarting kalkwasser !

Hi ,

I have 80g reef tank with 18g fresh water for top off , i want to stat kalkwasser , in my country we dont have pickling lime ! we have only kent marine kalkwasser , can you explain to me step by step how to make kalkwaseer please ? and do you think can i use kent kalkwaseer in top off and how ?

Just add the recomended amount to the water. Keep it covered and use it for top off.

The thing is that kalkwasser has to be dosed slowly. The ph of kalkwasser is about 12.4, so if it's put in all at once it will raise the tank's ph too much. Kent Kalkwasser is fine. Where are you located?

kalkwasser's high pH can be counter acted w/ vinegar, meaning you can dose alot more at once. not to mention the other benifits that that arises when you do add vinegar to kalk.

i hear a good starting point is 4ml of vinegar to 1L of kalk, then if you dont see any negative effects that a few people report such as bacterial blooms, add a little more vinegar until you reach the max amount of vinegar recommended which i cant recall off the top of my head right now...
