First time using filter socks

Do you need to wash them before their first use? I have a Red Sea 225 micron felt bag. I'm sure I read on here somewhere that it's a good idea to wash them first but can't seem to find the post. If you do need to wash them first, then how? I don't want to use the washing machine so would a bucket of rodi water and a couple of hours soak be enough before the first use?

I at the very least will rinse them well in hot water, otherwise my skimmer goes nuts if they are brand new.

I would wash them when brand new, in the washing machine no soap (what I do). Then I wash them every week in the washing machine (no soap).. I dont tell my wife...

FYI, you need to change the socks every 3 days or when they are overflowing... DONT leave them in there if they are overflowing.

I have just started filling my tank with water. Rocks and sand are already in but it’s gone a bit cloudy so was thinking of running the filter sock for a while to clear it up a bit.

I rinsed the sand for ages so it’s only a bit cloudy. Still got about 30 gallons (140 gallon total) of rodi water still to add so was only going to use the socks once I finish. Prob be sometime tomorrow.

So do I even need to rinse it if I have no skimmer running?

It's a good practice to wash or rinse anything that goes in tank, especially anything new, production oils or whatever.
