First try at fragging zoas. EPIC FAIL!

So I tried to frag out some dragons eye zoas. And all I did was turn them undo mush. Any tips?

I just use tweezers and pluck them from the rocks. If you only have a few polyps you might not want to this, (there will be some casualties) but if you have a lot, just try and grab them as close to the base as you can and pull them from the rock slowly. GL.

First time fraggers - I would suggest instead - cut a small section off of 3-4 polys with the plug or rock their attached to - the glue it to a new plug or rock - much more successful. Less wear and tear to the colony and polyps.

If you have nuke greens I have found it is hard to kill them when fragging. I use a big knife to frag zoas.

+1 always do this when you can.

I just clip of the rock around it and then glue the drag onto a plug.it makes it really easy in my opinion

This is easier said then done IME. Trying to chip off a piece of rock in hopes of getting a polyp or two would not only be a hassle in my tank, but could very well be a disaster. If things happen to shift & move through the use of force, I could very well be rebuilding my reef tank all night. Corals might become dislodged, the rocks might slide on the glass, etc. Kind of scary...

If you have a good pair of bone cutters and an exact you can frag them in the tank. It's a bit tricky sometimes but if you turn the pumps off and have good patience you can do it.
