Fish 2000 closed for remodeling

I was looking for a few things yesterday and decided to swing by Fish 2000. The place was locked up, and inside was gutted. They had a huge freezer (I think) blocking the view of most of the store, so I don't know how much progress is being made, but I suspect it will be closed for a minimum of two weeks.

Just a heads up so more folks don't drive over there!

yeh, last week we took our dog to vet right by fish 2000 so i thought might as well check it out, haven't been there for a year or two and it was just like you said, completed closed off and remodeling. Hopefully they clean that place up, it needed quite a bit of work.

Fish 2000 was once a neat store; back when I was in high school, early 90s.

They needed to gut it. The layout just sucked. I hope they do something nice with it. That shark tank was just a waste. And the pond and bridge, (which was only ever accessible in the beginning), were a waste of space too. Hopefully they can come back with a better store layout that uses the space better. I'd much rather drive to Tustin than to Fountain Valley.

Although now that I'm done stocking my tank, the hobby just got entirely boring.

What is there to look forward to after your done? Seeking new fish was the exciting part. Now what? Maybe I should post a thread just about this. I am bored.

Cheers
Josh

I wish the new owners of Fish 2000 good luck! That building is a huge mess. I think I would have moved to a new building before tring to slavage that one! Besides parking stinks.

Fmellish: You can always find something to change and improve on your tank. If not then you can help me with mine. But I kind of know what you mean.

Your tank is amazing laverda. You could add fish to that thing forever and never overstock.

My friend just bought a 300 gallon. We will be plumbing it soon. I have a feeling I'm going to be spending more time working on his tank soon than mine :)

Cheers

Hrm...must check out Laverda's tank when I pick up the chiller.

Fish2000 has definitely gone downhill. Can only get better...hopefully.

I have talked with new new owners of Fish 2000 a few times since they took over.

The previous owner died a little while back and I believe the place was being run by family. The owner of Sand Bar in Costa Mesa was approached to buy, but the place needed so much work he took a pass on the deal.

The new owners are a husband and wife with one of their friends. They are friendly people and strike me as people who care about their customers.

The whole place has been gutted so they can start over. The plumbing on the original set up was a nightmare, the filtration beyond repair and the shark tank was leaking. Currently, they are filling in the shark tank and redesigning to handle birds and other small critters. They will continue to stock saltwater and the owner of Sand Bar will be doing most of their buying.

The last time I visited, they were hoping to remain open so customers could continue to buy water and food. Since that conversation, however, I have not seen their door open (and I usually grab lunch at the brewery once a week).

It is too small as it is. Hard to imagine they are going to have birds and hampsters too! I hope the land lord gave them a lot of free rent or something to do all the work!

dznuts007 or any other RCers your welcome to stop by and see my tank. Admission is a frag of you choice. JK

I hope Frank(old owner) is resting peacefully. I liked and miss Frank, he was funny in his own way.

Frank was a great guy. He always remembered my wife and I since we live way out in Rancho Cucamonga to visit his store. Everytime we go there and if there was a customer he was helping Frank would always says "Look, these people drive from Rancho Cucamonga to shop at my store." His store was quite claustrophobic. I always wondered what was upstairs. Im sure its even more cramped with extra dry goods. Nevertheless he had some great prices on his dry and live goods and even matched some internet prices as well for me. He also had the best 50 gal salt prices as well

Frank was crazy... crazy like fox! Yeah, he'd match prices without batting an eyelash but wasn't adverse to digging up a little profit somewhere else to make up the difference. Hey, a man's gotta make a living. It always cracked me up that if I pressured him too hard on a price, he would suddenly lose his English and couldn't understand me anymore. :D

I don't see how the shop will be a good reefer source if they are bringing in birds and critters, but we'll see how it turns out.
