Fish acclimation...

How long should it take for a new arrival to be fully acclimated? I added a pair of blue throat triggers on tuesday and they still will not come out or eat anything. Is this normal? I have never ordered fish before, I usually pick them up at the LFS.

Thanks!

It took my blenny almost a week before he ventured out for any length of time. Every time I looked in the tank he was huddled into a new hole in the rock, with his stress colors showing. Two days is hardly anything to be worried about at this point, IMO.

Good luck, those are beautiful fish!

Ok, thanks. I just don't know quite what to expect since this is the first time I have ordered fish through the mail or Fed-Ex.

I actually just got a Blue Throat/Jaw Trigger (got it from a LFS) a couple of months ago... it seems they take a good couple of days (maybe a week) to come out. While mine was in QT, it would stay hidden in the PVC for the first couple of weeks and only came out to eat. Now he's out in the open non-stop...

Just make sure there's nothing wrong with your water params and they should start coming out.

Good luck!

What other fishes are in the environment with your new additions? They can be more skittish for longer if there are equally, or more aggressive feeders in there with them. Food is everything to these guys right now!

My bluethroat stayed hidden for at least a week. He didn't eat. I ended up spot feeding him with cocktail shrimp on a poker. He is a very shy fish.

Great fish but do take quite awhile to get settled. Mine hid for a long time then came out only when they didn't see me. Once they decide the tank is home they will be out and about a lot.
