I recently added a small Yellow Eye Kole Tang to my tank that already contained a Flame Hawkfish. This hawk attacks any newcomer but I figured they'd work it out eventually. Every morning the Kole would look ore and more beat up and raggedy. After 3 weeks of this I decided the hawk had to go so I made a trap and caught him. He now resides in my sump and in just one day the Kole looks better. My question is can I return the hawkfish to the tank at some point when the Kole is established and the Hawk will be the newcomer or will he just start the attacks again. The Hawk is one of the most colorful and interesting fish I have with the exception this behavior.

You mentioned the keyword "small" on kole tang. I think there is certainly a chance for the hawk to go back to the main tank but probably wait until the kole tang is big and fat so he can hold his own before you do that. I love hawks they got so much personality but sometimes they can be jerks.
