Kordon sells a FISH PREP which is a "preventive fish bath" which claims to prevent the transfers of decease (fin rot and common bacteria infections), but all i see in it is therapeutic oils.

Does it work any one have experience with it.

Also claims in 15 minutes you can safely add the fish to your aquarium

There are baths with proven effectiveness: formalin, freshwater, iodine,...
So why take a risk with something that may or may not work?

It was just a question since the manufacturer warrantied that after 15 min bath you could add fish to your tank (I assumed with no need of QT).

I order formalin, pranzipro and copper in case my tangs brought some nasty things.

FW dip didn't work for me before :(

There is no medicine that will cure all fish from all disease in 15 min. Tons of them will lighten your wallet in 15 min though. I'd like to see what they are warranting... Cost of all your dead fish?

Yea I figure.

One more question how do you a formalin bath, I got 2 tangs yesterday and I happen to have some ICH-X (formaldehyde).

Should I just use the dosage on the bottle for that size on QT tank (20g)?

Fish eat adn swing fine, no scratching of any kind (they just been tangs swimming allover the tank, lol),or should i wait til I see any kind of sing of sickness?

Ok i went ahead an took carbon out poured the amount indicated of ich-x,hoping to prevent ich, velvet or any fungal infections.

The Qt tank is a 20g long with a HOB filter rated for 75g aquarium (the one with the biowheels) the cartridges were in a establish tank as well as the pvc elbows.

That statement most certainly should raise all kinds of alarms. It's most certainly snake oil.

Well, at least nothing that leaves the fish alive...
Though a 15 min bath in pure bleach or boiling them for 15 minutes will surely eradicate all pathogens.

so you think is a good idea to just treat them with formalin? since they tangs? :blown:

What disease are you treating for? If you are treating for ich, formalin is not an effective treatment. I would perform tank transfer method for ich.

I dont see anything on the fish, just preventing of velvet and ich or any other kind of skin pathogens.

Well i use ICH-X for ich but i also have cooper if need to.

im lost cause ICH-X is formaldehyde and is made for ich

I strongly doubt the efficacy of this for saltwater fish. Perhaps it works ok for freshwater fish.

If you want to "treat" fish before any symptom - then I only recommend TTM, cupermine, or chloroquine phosphate for ich. Some folks will do a 60 minute dip with formalin. Everything else is way to harsh IMO. Many folk will not even recommend to use cupramine or chloroquine until symptoms. The most important thing, is to put new fish into a QT tank to allow them to settle down, fatten up and allow you to observe the fish to see if any parasites pop up.

In any case, during QT, I recommend to do a treatment for flukes - prazipro is popular.

Just remember that all medicine has side effects on fish and you can do a lot of unneeded damage by treating when unneeded.

Cool yea that's why I'm was asking, i do have copper but i haven't use it.
I used the formaldehyde solution for 3 days and the fish seem to be handle it ok.
I see not sing of ich or any other sickness so I will wait few more weeks in qt tank and treat as need it.

Thank you

The formaldehyde dip likely helped with any light infection with velvet, brook and uronema. If the fish had ich, it will still have it. Ich digs down under the skin, so the formaldehyde is unable to get to most of them. I would recommend to still go ahead with one of the other options I mentioned to make sure ich is gone. And still also do a treatment for flukes.

azcrazy - Doesn't sound like this product will provide the results that it claims but it was a fair question to ask and this is the place to ask it... despite some condescending remarks.

The Formalin dip is good for exactly the parasites that that mattcoug said but they will still need to be observed in QT (about a month on the light side) to give those parasites to show themselves if they weren't eradicated. As for prophylactic ich treatment--just TTM and it can be done with another 20 long or you could switch to 10 gallon tanks or even 5 gallon buckets (each tank/bucket with it's own dedicated equipment) to save on salt and there's a great thread for it on this site. Also, I would add and air pump--especially when using the prazi--I keep mine running continuously.

Good Luck
Mike

Thanks like I said fish don't show any sing of sickness, and I was just wondering about the ICH-X product.

I do QT my fish for 8 weeks atleast, lost to many loved fish for been lazy :(
