Fish care during a tank upgrade help

Hello Reefers,

I am upgrading my 220g (72x24x30) tank to 300g (72x36x27), while at the same time changing the flooring where the tank will sit. I need to house my fish safely in a temp location until the flooring is done and the new tank, plumbing, etc is done. I assume this will take anywhere between a few days to 1 week

My fish are: 12" vlamingi, 4" yellow, 4" purple, and 6" naso tangs, 6" blue face, 3" Rock beauty Angels, and a few damsels, clowns, blennies, and chromis

how do you recommend I house them? And what is the bare minmin equipment required to keep them well until the move? I only have one skimmer. I don't want to keep them at LFS because they might pickup diseases.

Please advise, thanks!

Fish care during a tank upgrade help

I'd go with 3 x 35 gallons opaque ( to reduce stress) plastic storage bins with hang- on filter and powerheads in each ... Unless you want to pierce bins to jam pvc pipe fittings and tubing to link them together to use just one bigger filter , but its a bit of a headache and you will still need a powerhead or bubbles in each bin.

You can also use those giant blue barrels ( 60 gallons) like for pickles... But since they're high and not wide I'd worry for the Vlamingi tang.
Good luck

When I did my large move I used a preformed pond. For filtration I used a five gallon bucket with a couple 1 inch hole drilled near the bottom on the side. I took a mag 7.5 and ran a hose over the top of the bucket so the water would drain out the holes. In the bucket I had egg crate in the bottom set at at a height just above the holes and placed carbon and filter pads on top of the egg crate. The bucket was placed on top of a milk carton in the pond. That and a heater was all I needed for a upgrade that took about 8 months lol. Which is about 7 months longer then I had planned. Just had to keep up with water changes because I did not have a skimmer in there. You could also use a Rubbermaid stock tank.

How deep was your pond ? You didn't get any jumpers?
