I lost a wrasse last night after dosing prazipro, but the other fish in QT are fine, I dont understand?
so here is the rundown.
10g QT tank, set up using bio wheel filter, bio wheels reside in my sump for quick starts of QT tanks.
4 small fish in Qt, 3 fire fish have been in there for 2 weeks, wrasse was put in last Friday. I dont normally mix in new fish, but I figured I would just extend the fire fish an extra week
water changes and siphoning of poo every other day, ammonia not a problem.
all 4 fish were eating frozen brine, showing interest in other foods.
The wrasse came in last week very stressed, I was not even sure he would make it the first day. laying up side down, labored breathing, pale, the whole nine yards.( He did have a white stringy substance from his anus, I figured worms.) Next day he was swimming, within a day or two he was eating.
The wrasse seemed to be getting stronger and more active, showing increased appetite. So I figured I would go ahead and do a round of prazipro. I made a mistake and was thinking it was my 15g tank and dosed more then the recommended amount, but not by much. a 10g tank should take appr 1/2 teaspoon, 2.5ml, I put almost 4ml. The 3 firefish were completely uneffected, showed no changes visually or activity wise. they still just swam around like no problem.
The wrasse clearly had issues with it. his breathing became very labored, he either layed on the bottom or swam verticle, and often went to the top for air. I did take him out of the QT and put him in a seperate container with no medication for a few hours, but the damage was already done. He did not make it through the night.
what happened? I dont think I OD'ed him on prazipro, I know I made a mistake and overdid it a bit, but the other fish are fine?
