Fish died, will it infect others?

I bought a firefish yesterday and it died within being in my tank after a few hours. I tried taking it out but it landed on my folded brain (LPS) and it started eating it, so I let it eat it. It ate half of the firefish and the rest floated away in my tank. I wasn't able to take out the other half of his body and I wanted to know if the dead body is going to infect my other fishes? The fish was breathing very heavily once i put him in my tank (yes i did tempurature acclimate him).

I have 1 cleaner shrimp and 1 peppermint shrimp and some snails that are my clean up crew.

I wanted to know whats the damage this dead fish could cause??

My other tank mates are a maroon gold stripe clown, royal gamma, yellow tang. Thanks

temp acclimation is little help with SW. you needfish to be acclimated to the SG of a tank, which it sounds lieke yours was not. in a high flow 40g, it will at worst cause a nutrient spike. I had a yellow tail damsel die in my 20g (40g system) and it cause very little problems.

You may notice an increase in ammonia, then nitrates. But I imagine the cleaner shrimp would have a go at polishing whats left of the fish off.

Still ideal to remove it if you can to save the tank getting the extra un-needed nutrients from the body.

Off-topic. I don't think the FF would've lasted long in a 40 with those other fish. They can get beat up pretty easy and should really only be in a very peaceful tank, or a tank with a lot of space.

So is it my fault the fish died or my LFS? What type of acclimation am I supposed to do then if tempurature acclimation doesn't help?

btw should I ask my lfs for a refund?

Typically, for reasonably hardy fish (as opposed to some sensitive inverts), most folks think its best to do a slow drip acclimation over about an hour or more. This acclimates the fish not just to temp, but to ph, salinity, etc. Then after that, 4-6 weeks in a QT is considered best practice by most experienced reefers.

That selection is going to cause you all sorts of problems in the future. All can be very aggressive.
Are you sure you firefish wasn't battered to death.

I tend to go with Matt and also agree with mrwilson. It is unlikely that your SG matched that of your LFS. It is definitely not the LFS fault.

so what kind of fish should I get to add to my tank? I wanted to add 3 chromi's but nevermind I guess they will get beat up.

Any suggestions? Thanks
