Fish diets- My fish are weird eaters

This is just a fun thread making fun of my silly but awesome fish.

I have the following:
bicolor foxface rabbit fish
Chevron tang
swallowtail angel fish
sleeper goby
rainsford goby
starry blenny
2 black / white clowns.

Other than the clowns a predominately veggie tank right.... So one would possibly think...

Well, My tang and angel's favorite food is mysis... They go nuts for it and I never eat them pig out so much. The rest all like mysis too, but, they don't go as crazy as the two veggie eaters.

I have a fair amount of algae build up on the glass and the chevron is constantly kissing the glass.

So, i put a piece of nori in once a week... Guess what happens to it.... The starry blenny is the only one that tries to go after it, and I had a fish go in my overflow a few days ago so I was trying to get him out of my flex hose. Turns out he was already through it, but, I found large chunks of nori stuck to the flex hose walls of my overflow plumbing.

So, literally it remains uneaten. They'll all eat flake food, and I have tried veggie flakes, they'll eat those up just fine. But, outside of that I can't get the fish to like their greens... I thought angels and chevrons were heavy veggie eaters. lol.

Silly picky fish!!

I was very surprised when I realized that puffers and tobies are quite fond of nori. I've had wrasses act the same.

Genicanthus angels like your swallowtail are actually plankton eaters, so it's not surprising that it likes mysis. In fact, most fish we keep are somewhat omnivorous, albeit with preferences. It's not unusual for tangs to eat mysis. I'm guessing that they consume a fair amount of invertebrate life while grazing, so it's not too surprising.

By the way, it sometimes takes fish awhile to get used to eating from a clip. I'm guessing your fish will catch on eventually.

yeah, not surprising at all. When I first put sheets of nori in my tank nobody would touch it including my coral beauty. After I added my foxface, now everyone (coral beauty, osc clowns, Randall goby, YWG and firefish) all get in on the action after the foxface starts munching away. The only fish in my tank that doesn't touch it now is my PJ cardinal. They all eath pretty much anything else that goes in the tank from formula 2 pellets to frozen mysis.

Back when I had my algae blenny he would attack anything and everything that went in, meaty foods and all. Never know what these guys will eat lol

Cool. Getting the right nutrients in their tiny little bodies is key to continued fish health, so I just wanted to make sure they're eating their fruits and veggies. LOL.

I guess they get enough from the naturally growing alge. heh. Yeah, my friend's tank all of his fish rip the nori apart in a single instant. One moment it's there, the next it's devoured like it's the last food on the planet.

Hmm. Maybe I'd have better luck feeding nori to my RBTAs. :)

I feed them freeze dried krill. I found that Petsmart has freeze dried mysis. I'm wondering if that's any better or worse than frozen mysis? I used it once, I loved how easy it was to feed vs. melting frozen mysis. It was the only store to carry freeze dried mysis.

Same here. I put in some nori for my blue line angel and emperor angel, and my narrow lined puffer went nuts trying to eat the whole portion. Nowhe will eat nearly half a sheet every 3 days. But then again, he eats anyting put in the tank
