Fish Disease

Was wondering if anyone can tell me what my Fox-face has got. It is only on one side of his body. It does not seem to bother him. But it started out as only one circular spot now he has 3 to 4 spots.. What is the problem, and what should I do. Thanks Tom

I think you foxface is fine. Mine gets marks like that once in while which are caused from him scraping himself against the rocks. As I am sure you have observed, these fish can sometimes get a bit jumpy. Mine on occassion darts behind the rocks when he gets startled usually by nothing but some sudden movement in the room, etc. He will sometimes bump his side against the rocks and get some marks like yours when he does so. Just feed him well and maintain good water quality and should heel up. That is what it looks like to me.

I am no expert, but it does not look like any disease I have seen. Looks like abrasions marks to me. Also, possible bite marks from other fish (have you observed any aggression?), but I do not think so. Monitor his behavior and make sure he is behaiving normally and particularly eating well. If so, I think you have no issue.

I would also improve his diet. What you are feeding at this point is barely adequate. Add some mysis, minced table shrimp, and other meats to his diet (brine is very low in nutritional value) and nori/macro algae from refugium, if you have one, to his diet. I would also purchase some new life spectrum pellets to add into the mix which this fish in particular absoluely loves and is especially nutritious.

The marks are not bite marks they dont look as thou it is a parisite under the skin, just looks like the color is gone. So I will add to his diet and keep an eye on him. Thanks all for your help. Tom
