Fish Food LFS or Online

After my tank is cycled and my QT tank is ready I plan on getting a couple of O. Clowns. I have a couple of questions about the food I should buy.

How much should I buy to start with?

Is it cheaper to buy online or LFS?

Seems like the frozen food is pretty expensive online. Liveaquaria.com has a seperate $20 shipping charge for frozen food. Do you still buy frozen food online and just buy in bulk?

If you can afford to buy in bulk, many online stores (I prefer www.premiumaquatics.com) will allow up to 10 items in one box. That way you spread the extra shipping charge out a bit.

The best thing to do would be to simply compare prices from the LFS to online as each LFS will have different prices. I typically order online, but that's because the LFS selection in my area is pretty slim. I suggest spectrum pellets, Rod's food (frozen), super shrimp (enriched frozen brine), mysis shrimp (frozen), and there are many others. There's just a few that I've used with success.

I will also add that many people choose to make their own food with items straight from the super market. You can buy fish, squid, octo, nori sheets, scallops, clams, oysters, some people use vegies such as brocoli, carrots, fish roe, etc. etc. etc. Blend, put in freezer bag and freeze. I'll see if I can find a link to a good homemade food.

Food is one of the few things that I don't buy online. Most of the food that I use is frozen, so I don't want to pay the extra shipping for it. In addition, I usually to plan ahead with running out of food and have to run to the LFS.

Here's the link to "Eric's famous coral food recipe"

and here is what is used in Rod's Food:
Shrimp, scallop, oyster, clam, Squid, octopus, enriched brine, krill, mysis, grouper, Red Plankton, broccoli, carrots, colliflower, Red Nori, green nori, selco, garlic, Golden pearlsTM (all sizes) DTs oyster eggsTM, nutra rose powder, fresh rotifers, fresh baby brine.

Hope that helps.
