Fish food

Hi everyone i have an 55 gal reef tank with a little corals and fish. I would like to know if it is ok to feed ur reef fish with fresh water fish food. I got alot of it and don't want to waist fish food

It depends. If it is standard tetra min type inexpensive flake or similar, then no I wouldn't recommend it. There are foods that can be given to both though, like frozen Piscine brand mysis, daphnia, encapsulated brine shrimp eggs,Hikari bloodworms. Even some dry foods...I give my sw fish a little flake sometimes{along with frozen for the day} and give both them and my fw fish the same Ocean Nutrition Formula one, Hikari Algae tabs{my hermits go crazy like it's a treat} and other foods.

I was under the impression that fresh and saltwater foods had different amino acids in them and should not be fed one to another.

Don't know what to say..been doing it the same way since 03' and still have some of the same fish. My bettas live 5+ years..more than most people can say. Of course there are foods I feed each that the other does not get, but those I listed are normally fed to both. There are even formulas by Spectrum, New life small fish formula that are listed right on the container for both fw & sw fish.
