Fish Food

What kind of food do the Oscular Clown fish prefer to eat? I bought frozen shrimp food that the local fish store recommended, but it looks like the fish just spits it out instead of eating it. Is there a more preferred food the clown likes to eat?

If your clown fish is a juvenile (1"), try frozen mysis to begin with, and then gradually switching to frozen formula 1 or frozen prime reef.

surfinitt,

Is your fish new to your tank? If so, it may take some time before it will eat.

I've had many fish do this. Eventually, they get hungry anough to eat it, provided it's sized right for them. It also helps if you have at least one other fish in the tank that eats well to sorta show him the ropes. Most fish get excited when they see another fish eating. This makes them want to eat as well.

Ever been sitting in a restuarant, hungry, and waiting for your food? It smells SOOO good as the waitress walks by with someone elses food! Makes you wanna eat, huh?

Is formula 1 or prime reef better? I feed mine with mysis shrimp and formula 2 flake. Am I missing something? thanks.

I sugguested smaller mysis for juveniles because they are more likely to go for small size food. As they grow bigger, specially the female, they will need more meaty food, frozen food is also more nutritious than flakes, and contains more HUFA (highly unsaturated fatty acid).

Both Formula One and Prime Reef has the same ingredients, except Formula One contains gel binder, and the other doesn't. I personally prefer Prime Reef, as it doesn't contain the binder, you get uneven size chunks of food, and it's great for feeding your entire tank from large fish to inverts, even filter-feeding inverts.
