Meh, meat doesn’t be plastic wrapped on a styrofoam tray in the refrigerated section. That’s why we cook it.
I make my own food too. Get the combo seafood packages at an asian market (usually shrimp. squid, clams, etc), make sure it's only the seafood and no additives. I also usually add more raw shrimp in it as well to try to get a 70-80% shrimp and rest other seafood recipe. Blend/chop it, add flakes in it if u want, and freeze flat in a freezer zip lock bag.
I feed this plus pellets during feeding.
Waaaay cheaper than buying frozen fish food.
Mark, look for H Mart, they have quality fresh stuff.
I will also order red algae and selcon for the mix.
Good luck with your hungry fish

Where do you get red alage and what is selcon?
I saw that too at ranch 99 the other day after getting inspired to start diying my own food after reading this thread lol. Was tempted to pick it up but then I was unsure of the imitation crab and cooked shrimp in there
I'm always looking for larger size ROE -- My fish absolutely freaking LOVE capelin roe, which I get from RODS.
The problem, is RODS Eggs are $9/2oz, and I know capelin are NOT expensive. I can never find the ROE without all kinds of flavors and salts mixed in. But someone said out there you can find large jars of it for a few bucks.
I guess I'll hit up H-Mart, there's one not too far from me..
here's what I got from H Mart. you can see their fish roe on top left. whole pack was $5

Nice, wish we had an H mart around here.
Diamond Bar one isn't too far.. that's the one I go to. about 30min from you on good days haha
I never get a frozen mix, I just look around and get what I like individually.
Mainly Shrimp, a large pack of silver side, fish roe and any other fresh seafood they have.
Man $50 worth of these stuff last me 4+ months with very heavy feeding.
No further saving required

Does that mix have the fake crab and cooked shrimp in it? I used to know what fake crab was... some other fish with red die on the outside.
