Fish for a 55gal?

Hey guys,
I'm trying to figure out what to put in my 55gal reef. I would like at less one main fish that is active and fun to watch. I'd be interested in any opinions. I was told i could get a small yellow tang but i'm not sure if that's such a good idea? Any opinions?

Thank you very much!

A Yellow Tang could be kept in a 55, but many, including myself, would advise against it. Tangs really like they're space.

What kind of aquarium are you wanting? A FOWLR, a reef, community or aggresive? The stock list will depend on what type of setup you want.

I recently added an african flameback angel to my 55 and it certainly fits the bill for what you are looking for.

I had a nice foxface rabbit fish......until the accident......he hid alot at the begining but once he was out he was awesome to look at.

All angelfish are a risk except for the members of the genus Genicanthus. They are also known as the Swallowtail angelfish.

You can go for one of the smaller dottybacks - i.e., fridmani, springer's, sunrise. Very colorful and active, fun to watch, and are known to prey on some 'undesirable' pests. The arabian blue-lined dottyback is also gorgeous but can get very aggressive.

I've always had flame angels or flamebacks and neither bothered any of my corals/clams. The african flameback is pricey but worth it IMO.

1=Leopard Wrasse
2=Ocellaris Clownfish w/ RBTA (Already in tank)
1=Orange Stripe Prawn Goby w/Shrimp
3=Banggai Cardinal Fish

Is what I"m planning on putting in my 55g Reef, so I'm in the same boat as you basically.

Thanks man,
I would like a pair of clown fish too, (to breed one day) Just need to find a cool mid size fish that everyone can sit down and watch.

A fairy wrasse if you have a cover or want to make one. And there are a lot of clowns that get good size that would kill two birds with one stone mid size and will breed.

I do have a egg crate cover and a canopy.
I was looking more along the line of a Ocellaris or something. I've got a purple reef lobster he wouldn't mess with anything will they?

a sixline is always fun to watch although kind of small. I also have a coral beauty angel that loves to swim in and out of the rockwork and has never picked on any of my corals.

The debelius will mess with with small fish and inverts, especially if it doesn't get enough to eat. A Genicanthus or lucky Centropyge angel will do you well; also, I'd get finer netting if you want to get a wrasse. Egg crate is good for tearing them up on their way out. I ordered some pond netting (1/4") to keep them in.
