fish for a first time reefer

Hi well this is my first topic post and well first off this summer i am setting up a ten gallon nano reef and well I plan on stocking it with a firefish and a pair of picaso clownfish. Is that a reasonable stock for this tank and if I can can I put another small goby in the tank?

Firefish are extreme jumpers so I wouldn't put them in a 10 gallon... the clownfish will be okay, i would try gobies and/or jawfish they tend to be better suited for smaller tanks
also there are a wide variety of clown gobies the are amazing

A lawnmower blenny will get to large for a 10while gallon. And they are pretty active and need more room and plenty of rock to graze from.

how about a bumble bee goby. Can they be kept in pairs?

If you are going to get a pair of clownfish in a 10 gallon tank that is all you will be able to get, most likely.

I have never kept a tank that small, but if the clowns get aggresive they could end up just taking over the tank and killing any other fish in there. Also a 10 gallon is gonna be crowded with the clowns alone. Not a very big tank for much more than the 2 clowns.

ok thanks I willl just go with the clowns. If i buy a mated pair will they mate and if so will they destroy my tank while doing so. I plan to have a bunch of polyp corals and maybe a small sps so would they nock them over or eat them

They may redecorate the tank but they shouldn't eat anything outright.

Why don't you do a 75 gallon tank ? You will have more options available and the cost difference isnt much . It's also easier then a 10 gallon for your first time. A pair o clowns in a 10 would be risky in my opion and not be able to add any other fish since territory space will be a big problem

Some people may not have the money to setup a 75. But this person seems to wanna get their feet wet or maybe they dont have the room. Personally, I wouldnt go any smaller than 29 gallon tank.

Money wise is not a huge difference plus if he like it an wants to do something bigger he wont have to waste as much money in all upgrades he'll need in equipment..
If there's no room then obviously it's not an option

I think a 10 is a fine starter tank. Just keep up with it. Get captive bred ocellaris clowns.

Hey your right.....$185 is the same as $1320. Whatta ya know lol

And thats just the beginning. I never recommend someone go that big for their first tank. People in the reef hobby does always stay in it....so I dont recommend them spending an enormous amount of money if you dont even know they will stay in. Yeah sure the few of us that stick around, do wanna upgrade. But not everyone can support the time or funds to keep up with a saltwater tank. If you dont believe me, go on craigslist.
