Fish for nanos

What would be a good amount of fish to put in my 14G nano?
I do not want to over populate my tank.
I would love to have a mated pair of clown fish, but with them, would there be room for anymore? Just curious!

I think a pair of clowns would be about max for a 14. If you want more than 2 fish maybe you could look at something that stays a little smaller like some of the gobies or blennies. For example I have a tailspot blenny which is an awesome fish.

2 small swimming fish, 1 goby. It will give you interesting activity without a whole lot of trouble.

Clowns will get too big eventually, but will be fine for a bit. If you get them, be sure to get really small ones.

Thanks for the advice! I have a friend who keeps a larger DT and when my future clowns outgrow the 14G they would move into his, and in the future I plan on converting my 46G freshwater tank into a saltwater, but that is years away!

Do you recommend clowns from a breeder or a LFS? Aqua touch is the best salt water fish supplier in my area and they have fantastic quality for fish.Would they be my best bet for 2 good quality clowns?

I have a 14 gallon Bio-cube with a pair of Naked clowns and shrimp goby and pistol shrimp. The shrimp goby and pistol are a blast to watch. The clowns hang out in a bubble tip nem I have in the tank. I wouldn't put anymore than that in my tank. If you were to go with smaller gobies, firefish,etc. you may be able to go with as many as 4. You will get many different opinions on this topic. The biggest thing is doing your water changes faithfully and keep the parameters in check.
As far as where to buy the clowns it would depend on what type of clowns you are looking at. There are several breeders that can be found on the different forums with some really decent prices. The good thing about buying from your LFS is being able to see the fish in person and observe it or them eat and go about their business. That and choose the pattern/coloring/striping you like best.

I am a firefish fan especially in a tank that size. Maybe pair it with something like a Yellow Watchman Goby....
Another cool addition would be a Pom Pom Crab.

It's a gamble, but I have a yellow tail damsel that has been an absolute model citizen for the last 3 years. They can be very unpredictable, but if you want to risk a bad one, you could try one of those. Mine lives with a pair of naked clowns and a very small YWG. He's active and a very pretty fish. Just be aware that damsels can be pretty nasty and you may have to remove it if it's not like mine. Yellow tails (the blue ones) seem to be the most docile of the damsels, aside from clowns.

I have 2 clowns and a yellow goby from aquatouch in my tank....28 gal bow. I like buying from aquatouch, their tanks are always clean and you rarely see sick fish. They had a tang with lateral line disease and he was marked not for sale.

I also agree with the Cody6766..the yellow tail damsels are a hit or miss on being aggressive. I have previously owned one that was a great fish, others I have had to set up traps to remove from the tank after they started fighting with my royal gramma and clown. Short of clown fish, I will not buy damsels anymore.
