maybee someone can assist me here

this morning when i got up to go to work i turned on the first light on my tank (24" actnic t8)
then 30 minutes later just b4 walking out the door i turned on the second light(48"shoplight w/2 10k t8's)
it was then i saw one of my blue devil damsels lying on its side breathing a bit faster than normal with no rear tail (a red area where the tail was)
its side fins are there but at the area of the side where the fin connects there is a red spot
and a few red spots on its under belly
its not dead but only moves slightly when i touch it

i dont know what happened
come to think of it i didnt see it all too much yesterday
also it has a swelling in its belly

it just lies on its side breathing not moving
ne1 have ne idea?
i have it in my qt now but i dont think it will live long

Damsels are pretty hardy, how are the other fish (and what are the other fish?)

Could it have been beat up by another fish?

I would check your water parameters, specifically ammonia.

blue hippo (1)
blue devil (1)
every thing is fine
amm o
nitrite 0
nitrate 20 ppm
i hope it survives
i think it is a bacteria infection
which med should i use

very doubtfull that an infection would take out a whole tail in one night- without killing him before it got that far. I would bet something tried to eat him and now he probably has an infection in the wound. . do you have any large brittle starfish or an anemone or a large crab, etc.
