Fish ID: Goby

Hi all,

I have just bought this symbiose pair of a goby and a shrimp from a place where you order it online, and a local fish-dealer (denmark) picks it up for you.

This means i didnt know what goby i would get, and I have some problems ID'ing it. Maybe you can help me here

I have yet to see the shrimp and goby pair up :/ Havent seen the shrimp since i put it in the tank.

I've bought two "watchman" gobies from two different LFS. One is an obvious yellow watchman, the other looks just like yours. So some form of Watchman.

I've seen one like this at LFS the other day. Almost bought it. Store manager said it was a YWG but colors would probably stay faded like this even when the fish is not under stress. Ended up buying a Randall's goby with tiger pistol shrimp instead

It's not a yellow watchman goby, it's just a watchman goby. There are different kinds, and one kind is greyish- like this.

Depends on who you ask but yes that's a common belief, however I've seen plenty of them in pairs (after a prolonged period of time) who both stay yellow so aren't of the opinion that colour is a factor.

Read an article about someone breeding watchman gobies. Both were yellow.
