Fish ID

I saw a group of small fish at the local reef shop that look a lot like fresh water Tetras in a reef tank. I'm interested in more info about these fish, could someone clue me in?

They are definitely not Treadfin Cardinals or any cardinals for that matter. They're much smaller and are not as round as Cardinals. Anyone else?

Are you sure that they are in a reef. Were they with plastic corals? You should of asked a person at you LFS what they were.

Yes, they were housed with a dispar anthias and zoas, leathers, etc. I asked but the guy that was working and he didn't know what they were. I'll have to head back there when I have time to ask the owner and pick up a dozen or so :)

How about cleaner gobies?

Yes those could look like neon tetras. Somehow?

I could see Gobies coming across like neons. I definitely don't get the sarcasm.

hogpark7430 and reefing102, thanks so much for trying to help out. :) It's nice to have positive and helpful reefers trying to help one another (and not trying to insult your intelligence or being sarcastic at the same time  ). I'll definitely get a positive ID from the store owner in a couple of days. The reason why I'm quite interested is because I've seen these same fish in those Japanese SPS idol tank pictures and I have not seen them in any US retailers for the many years I've frequented LFS/wholesalers.

There are cardinals that are elongated and not deep bodied and that stay small. There are also some small anthias called Slender Anthias that are thin and elongated and live amongst other anthias and could have a tetra like look due to their double dorsal fin that may resemble the adipose fin that tetras and SW cardinals have.
