Well, i should be able to add fish to the reef in a couple weeks. Other than the standard "Nemo" fish, What are some good ideas for a mixed reef, on the easy side of care....

So far looking at:
Pair of clowns
Hippo, Naso, and either a purple or scopus tang.

thanks for some input!!!!

I'm also planning for a 180g mix reef. Besides your current choices, I'm also considering a midas or lawnmower blenny, some reef-safe wrasses (Flasher Carpenter most likely), royal gramma basslet, yellow mimic tang, and diamond goby. G/L with what you choose and keep us updated! You're probably at least 6 weeks ahead of me, and I'll be following closely :)

I had a diamond goby in the last tank. Great personality but a pain cause he kept digign holes and moveing the sandbed. I don't have a DSB in teh display this time so I won't be able to get one if I wanted....

Ohhh you have a vast selection to choose from with that 180g.

1 of each tang if posslbie haha!

The purple should be one of the last few fishes you should add in.

I'm hoping the budget will allow, I'd like to add all the tangs at once. I had issues last time trying to add tangs later on. I added a hippo with great success after 2 yellow and a scopus we're in. However, they beat the snot out of a naso. I even used a mirror to try to diffuse their anger elsewhere but to no avail. i would like to get a sohal tang as well. I'd like to have alot of movement, lots of fish this time around. I'm figuring I'll have to upgrad my ASM G3 to an external larger skimmer, that will allow a full 55g to be used as the fuge. Should be able to add a healthy bio-load. Just not sure what to all add. Love the in put gang. And as always, the help and ideas are always appreciated!!! =)

I'd say that you could definately do 1 large tang and 2 smaller ones as in one Acanthurus species and two zebrasoma species. I wouldn't go more than that in a 180 that being said you could do the Hippo, Purple, Scopas, and maybe squeeze a Chevron or Kole Tang in there as well. I dunno about a Sohal or a Naso in a 180 they both get over 12" long as adults and Naso grow a lot quicker than the Hippo, purple, or scopas you mentioned. Chevron's and Kole's max out at around 7-8" where as the Hippo will hit 10-12" the purple around 8" and the scopas around 6-8" as well.

Here you go just about have that list:rollface:

IMO do 10 anthias of any kind and go from there....I love my 3

Zeroed out Nitrates and phosphates at 32ml of vodka/day and cut close to half at 17ml/day along with 15 gtts of MB7:lmao:

But--my sps are happy and my fish are heavily fed

All in 170 net gal of water!

Well, I will be building a house within 5 years and will be building in a minimum of a 500g system. More likley 1000g. So we have room to grow!! =) Should I add these tangs in any specific order? I know they can get rowdy....

Thanks!

So... I was at the LFS this morning and they had some good looking butterfly fishes. about the only fishes that looked good. They had a raccoon and a pyramid. I've never kept these fish before so anyone with some expierence I'd love to hear it. Will they work with a mixed reef? They get along well with others? The only other bigger fishes I'll be adding are tangs.
