Fish Killed my Peppermint shrimp

I bought 2 Peppermint Shrimp Saturday from the group buy and for some reason my Fish killed one of the shrimps. As soon as he hit the water they pounced on him. The fish that attacked him were

1 of my Saddleback Clowns, Royal Gramma and my Domino Damsel the other fish didn’t even move his way. The clown was the one who started the attack she just grabbed him and took him to her anemone and took a chunk out of him and the other followed.

Is this normal?

They left the other one alone and they have never messed with my cleaner shrimp so I don’t know what happened.

Could it be a feeding problem maybe… I feed them Formula One Flake food once a day.

I had a Christmas Wrasse, Royal Gramma, and Blue Damsel destroy one of my new cleaner shrimp... I rescued the other and threw it in one of my other systems... :)

I had the same problem. They ate the first shrimp within 5 minutes of opening the bag. I was not a happy camper after I spent 3+ hours acclimating the shrimp....

I noticed the fish being very interested in the peps I bought. I decided to feed the tank at that time and they ended up leaving the shrimp alone and going for the food. I saw the guys later on that night so I think they found a good spot. Another option in the future is to acclimate and add the shrimp at night when the other fish are sleeping.

We had our six line wrasse go after a bunch of little peps that we added one time. The wrasse attacks EVERYTHING so I don't think it was specifically going after them because they were shrimp, but we've had a similar experience none the less.

That's the weird thing because I had just fed them before I put the Shrimps in... I guess I will try the while they are sleeping trick next time...

I guess I will do Joes juice or hot water trick to get rid of the Aptasia then.

That's pretty normal with fish that are established. It's a good idea to release them at night/lights off to avoid this. In my tanks peppermints survive well but don't come out during the day. Also keep in mind the normal lifespan for a peppermint is only a year or two so they will need to be replaced.

 Probably not funny to you, but that cracked me up.

My cinnamon clown took out a small peppermint shrimp while I was watching. At 7 bucks a pop, I was a little ticked off

Thats what I thought when I added my Sexy shrimp... Out of the 3 I added, only one made it to the rockwork... The last was gone about a minute later... :(

I have had my fish attack both peps and some other shrimp that is why you are suppose to add them at night with lights out so they have a chance to get use to the tank and hide. One of the food sources for fish are shrimp. A larger feeding away from where you are adding the shrimp works too if you can not wait tell dark.
