Fish list for standard 120

small alien

The fungus is among us.
Howdy gang. I'm putting together a fish list for a someone with a standard 4X2X2 tank. They'll have a mesh top for it. It's currently open. Tank will receive standard maintenance and will be a mixed reef of softies, leathers, gorgonians and maybe a plating Monte. Oh, and an RBTA. They would like to have an autofeeder operating and are planning on filling that with a couple good pellet foods and twice daily dispensing of said pellets. They will likely feed some frozen mysis or similar on occassion. Let's say every couple of days. And they'll feed nori daily for the Tomini.

What do y'all think of this fish list added in this order?

Azure Damsel (X2)
Ocellaris Clown (X2)
Cleaner Goby
Yellow Clown Goby
Yellow Watchman Goby
Royal Gramma
Matted Filefish
Yellow Coris Wrasse
Bullet Goby
Escenius sp. Blenny
Toby Puffer
Flame Angel
Tomini Tang

I would add the damsels and clowns first as they're more bullet proof in my experience. Note: The damsels will not be used to cycle the tank. I recognize the damsels could be challenging. But azure's seem to be known for a relatively tolerant member of the family. And I happen to have a pair in QT right now which is part of why they'd be added first. But, also, they are quite hardy and attractive and would get things off to a zippy start. My feeling is the tank is large enough that they will not be able to attempt to dominate and also that their attention will be spent more on each other as conspecifics.

To me, the clowns (captive bred Ocellaris) are a relative non-issue in that size tank. Hopefully they'll take to the anemone after it's introduced later.

Then everything else is more or less sort of standard relative to my understanding of aggression. Puffer, angel, and tang will all be added small.

I'm a little concerned about the Royal Gramma and the Damsels. Anyone have experience with that combo? In what size tank and in what order were they added? Thanks!

I'd appreciate hearing any and all feedback.

Couple thoughts. Adding a single lyretail anthias? Concerned about it eating enough with the pellets. The pellets will be fed heavily.

Also curious if anyone thinks more fish could be added and, if so, which ones would you suggest and, hopefully, why.

Thanks!!!:wave::beer::rollface::fun4:

Hi :)

the filefish, flame angelfish, toby puffer and damsels are the only problems.I am guessing you mean neon goby?Or is it a cleaner wrasse?

The filefish, toby puffer and flame angelfish are not reef safe. They will nip at most corals.

The damselfish are 50:50.Do not add them in first, add them last if you really want them.

Everything else looked okay.

Thanks for your thoughts, KW. I know those fish are not totally reef safe. That's okay. This is a fish tank with some coral rather than the other way around. Yes, I mean neon goby. I always call them cleaner gobies.

Anybody else want to chime in? Thanks!

No problem :) .I was just making sure we were both thinking of the same fish :)

If you're not to fused about having coral the flame angelfish should be fine :)

I would personally about the Neon Goby. They are short lived, come with diseases IME, and will jump through 1/4" mesh. Not worth the trouble IMO.

As long as the damsels arent in too long before the gramma it should be ok. I find grammas prefer to be toward the top of rockwork whereas azure damsels seem to like the lower part. I have seen the 2 work together in a standard 120 so that should be fine, azures are on the low end of damsel aggression.

the fish may likely go after any sps.. tried one and had to remove after 2 days.. they are easy to catch at least.
