fish list.. what do you think??

i'm upgrading to a 58 gallon tank.

i already have a maroon clown and blue damsel that will be transfered after the others are bought and setteled.

heres the wish list

one yellow tang
one 6 line wrasse
and maybe a neon goby or yellow watchman goby.
and then the maroon clown and damsel will be added

any input?
 
Well hopefully the maroon will get enormous! I'm staying neutral on the tang and would highly recommend the yellow watchman. The diamond goby is cool also. I hear mixed opinions on 6 lines. Some people love them, others don't. There are some really cool fairy wrasses and anthias that I would do instead, depending on how much room you have left. Your clown and tang will get very large so keep that in mind before adding any other large fish.
 
why do you hope the maroon will get enormous? just curious

what about a lunar wrasse? i did like the fairy wrasses that i saw too though... why do you feel they are better then a six line???

i wasn't planning on adding any other larger fish after the tang and maroon...

what reasons do you have for no tang????
 
nice mix, do them all but the tang and no more stocking w/o really good filtration. I don't know about adding a fairy or flasher with a gsm and blue damsel, let alone the hexataenia. Anouther fun fish is twin spot hog B. Bimaculatus. The neon is ify with those tankmates, maybe it will be a respected cleaner.
 
tangs need big tanks they get around 6 inches usually and can get 8, and need a lots of swimming room, liveaquaria says 100 gallons minimum for a yellow, you might be able to get away with it in a 75 tho but it wouldnt be happy
 
hmm yeah that's what it seem like.. i had read on some site that the yellow tangs had a 50 gallon minimum... thats exactly why i posted this, to get some feed back.. it seem like you can find a website to tell you anything you want to hear.. it's hard to know what's the truth.m :)
maybe i'll skip the tang all together....
any other fish suggestions to go with the remaining fish in the mix???
 
The said I hope because they SHOULD get very large. If not then something is wrong. The sixlines are reported by many people to be aggressive fish. Others don't have a problem. The lunar wrasse is not a good choice because if I remember correctly they also get very large. I'm not sure they are the best reef safe choice either. Look at some velvet wrasses or look at liveaquaria.com for some wrasse comparisons. I would switch the damsel out for something. They are aggressive as is the maroon. It will limit what other fish you can safely add in the future.
 
A lot of websites recommend small tank sizes because they are just trying to sell the fish. Tangs are very active swimmers and will add a lot to your bio-load. I mean you can always get a small one and upgrade tanks in a couple of years. A six line would be better then a lunar IMO. I would also trade in the damsel. They get very aggressive once they grow up.
 
I think you have a nice list of tough guys and I think the damsel fits right in, I like my talbot's damsels even though they're not very interactive. Look at the hog I mentioned earlier its a really neat little wrasse; will it get along with the sixline? they don't look at all alike so they might but I'd likely pick one or the other for your confines. I like knowining that I have room for it should a fish come along that I can't live w/o. It is better having more room for fish, than, having more fish than room.
 
what about a fire angel rather then tang,,,, and maybe with or with out a wrasse?
and i think i will keep the damsel out of the mix for now.
 
The neon goby is a cleaner, and just may be too insistent for a small tank---they can end up making a fish sore if they won't quit. And they very easily go down the downflow teeth. One problem with the yellow watchman and the tang---my own watchman seems to detest anything else yellow. I had a purple tang [yellow tail] in the tank for a while before I moved: he was cleaning up caulerpa on a loaner basis; and my ywg absolutely would not come out, whether he was terrified of the tang's size or behavior, or whether it was the yellow tail. I do know if I put a mirror near the tank, the ywg will blow a gasket trying to kill the "other fish."
 
what about this line up...

yellow watchman goby
royal gramma
and a 6 line wrasse or dwarf angel (depending on feedback)

And of course the maroon (gold striped)
 
I like the first lineup better; it is very unlikely the damsel will ever be able to pick on the gsm or the six line, it would get its butt handed to him for even trying. The pygme is a hit or miss coral nipper. What are thinking about for corals.

well as far as corals go, my options are wide open because my brother has a harvesting tank and willingly tosses differnt things my way.. so i wouldn't really want to get any fish that would restrict my options for corals.

so do you think the first line up with or with out the tang???
maybe replace tnag with gramma?
 
also when i star tthis new tank,, i'm going to wait and ad the damsel and maroon later... should i start it out with the yellow watchman? or the wrasse? or both???
