on Monday I purchased a new fish. It's a tobacco basslet. I added him to my tank and he was swimming around and looking very healthy. An hour later I fed and he ate everything I offered him without hesitation. I took this as a great sign!
The next morning; however, he was no longer swimming around but instead resting on the sand hiding next to a rock. I headed to work, and when I returned he was still in the same spot and didn't look like he had moved all day. I tried offering him food, dropping it right in front of him, and he ignored it (the same food he ate readily the day prior.) When he didn't eat the food, the clean up crew came in to get it... he swam away from the crabs, but only about 5 inches away and stopped next to another rock he could hide up against.
The fish's behavior has not changed since, and I'm getting very concerned for his health. Water quality in the tank is very high since it is an SPS reef tank growing acropora well. There is no visible damage to the fish's body, no indications of ich or other parasites... he's not scratching against anything, he's simply resting on the bottom of the tank and not eating! There are no aggressive fish in the tank that may be stressing him.
I'm reaching out for any advice or opinions as to what may be wrong with the little guy and what I can do to better his situation? Originally he was eating Krill pellets, I tried feeding him flake food as well as frozen food. He looks at the food, but does nothing about it. He is currently in a different tank where he is by himself so I can more easily monitor him.
