Fish only

I am planning a fish only tank, which means I am now considering fish that I have never before.

My question - how will something like a Majestic angel do with a powder blue or similar tang, assuming same size when introduced, which first, etc.?

Majestic angel is one of the milder large angels. However, it will be ok with powder blue or other similar acanthurus. I have a majestic angel with a powder blue and no one ever bothers each other.

that being said, even though majestic angel is shy, it's is by no means weak. mine would defend its territory and kick out the fish that try to enter it, unless the other fish is much bigger and tougher. One time my golden puffer wanted to camp in the majestic's cave, and the majestic let him do that for a day until he left by himself.

always introduce majestic first, regardless of size, before other "large" fish like PBT.

agree...they do make a nice combo...make sure to qt both...and esp keep an eye on the pb..they are ich magnets...once you have a healthy one, they are very hardy fish..

I would think it depends on the size of the tank.... I think both fish need a 6ft tank to be happy. Anything smaller then that is asking for trouble as they get big.

My PB is quite the bully.... chases my sohal all over the place

Proves that there is an exception to every "rule". Most Sohals, mine included, are almost always the Alpha fish.

To the OP: Of course, you have a QT regimen planned?

exactly!

My sohal was added last... thinking he was going to be the big cheese... numero uno... etc

another few months he will be bigger then the PB...

With any of these animals it's such a crapshoot....
