Hey all,

Set up a new tank, its a standard 75 with a low profile external beananimal.

basic co1 skimmer, heater, filter sock and return pump in sump. o and one of the large Marinepure blocks.

For fish stock;

Have: might transfer over 2x occ. clowns, royal gramma, firefish, 3x bangai cards.

Want: two flasher wrasse, some type of blenny (thinking starry or tailspot), a mystery wrasse and a "show fish" thinking this would have to be like a dwarf angel or a bristle tooth tang. Plan on stocking zoas/rics so angel might be dangerous.

How does this sound? would the mystery go after the established flashers?

I have a 180 and could put the mystery there, only wrasse in it is melenurus.

I'm thinking load wise should be good. all fish are pretty small.

Side questions I want a few pairs of fish in the 75, but think neither the cardinals or fire fish sex change if I remember correct. So I have one bangai in tank and 2 in QT, will adding them be a good idea Trio?

Also, for pairing up fire fish, is it just 50/50 luck of draw? will two male or two female try an kill each other? Wondering if i should just get one or if getting two more at once is the better option like i did with the cards.

As always thanks for your time,

You can do both starry and tailspot: they get along. A 75's a little small for a tang---they can get cranky as they get larger and start taking out your other fish.

Generally avoid having a pair of anything rowdy, because they can get cranky too: they don't want other fish near their nest. Egg-scatterers are usually better about territory, but those that keep a nest, like clowns, are a pain.

I keep a 105 full of damsels and smaller fish, and the answer to civilized behavior is pretty well one of a kind and enough room.

You're right that an angel may get nippy with the corals. You just can't tell. And I wouldn't recommend any of the showier damsels under 100 gallons of room. They can get real pushy. The bangais as a set will add a pretty touch. Yellow watchman also gets along with that crowd---no shrimp goby: they can also get problematic, but as a pair the watchmen are pretty calm.

Some of the more experienced aquarists have said more than one firefish will result in one firefish in the end. Even supposedly bonded pairs will likely kill each other eventually.
