Did you all know that Hooked by Fish went out of business? I went in there on Saturday and that was their last day.

I heard they were closing. I thought it was a decent store, but I guess I'm not suprised that they are closing.

There is a lot of competition in this area and they were in an absolutely HORRIBLE location, that's not a recipe for success...

That's too bad. They seemed like nice people. We only ever made it there once though, because their hours didn't work with our schedule. Always hate to see a small business fail. :(

I've often wondered what it would take (money wise) to start up a salt water only store.

depends on how well you wanted it to look when you opened i'd imagine

Well, I'm talking about just getting it all setup and ready to go...getting the word out that the store is going up, getting the right location (I'd think out in WDM by Jordan Creek would be ideal at this point...considering the amount of growth in that area...)

Granted, the real estate there would be SUPER expensive, but the clientel would be more upscale...Of course, that would mean you'd HAVE to make it look pretty...

if you do, something you might consider that would raise initial start up costs, but save you money in the long run might be to use ozone to recycle waterchange water, i know zoos and public aquariums do it, i don't see why a shop with thousands of gallons of water wouldn't also

I think it's going to be alot more expensive and alot harder to make money than you think. I've been milling this over for several years and sold alittle out of my basement, if you calculate it out, the large amount of fish, coral, and supplys you would have to sell (at a reasonable price) just to keep the business up and running, thats not even making a profit. Just something to think about.

Yes, saltwater only is a tough business to make money I hear. I think you would have to rely on alot of setting up and maintenance at businesses who want tanks, just like SOM does.
