i have currently had a tank set up for around 9 months now. however, i have recently really been wanting to redesign the whole tank. i have heard that this severly stresses the fish out? how true is this? any tips? would hate to lose some of the poor guys!

Moving anything around with the fish still in the tank will be considered an aggressive move towards the fish, and the fish will react accordingly. They will become extremely stressed.

Your best bet would be to place your most fragile fish in your QT tank while you do all the moving around. Make sure you plan out how everything will look in advance so that you can make the changes as quickly as possible.

I dont know how severe it would stress them out.I would just do a little every day and see how that works out.some people do complete change overs in a day without loosing anythig so you would be ok either way IMHO

My fish just swim to the other side of the tank. Doesn't seem to bother them too much. Just make sure not to bury and critters if you flip rocks and put them down on their tops.

I got tired of my yellowtail damsels beating up new fish. So... I took out enough live rock to catch them and a few days later my Flame Angel died. :( That was a very expensive newbie mistake. I have now sworn off Damsels and will not move things around once my tank is established. If you're really that dissatisfied with your aquascape and if you don't have that many animals, I would for sure use your quaranteen tank. However, you're still going to stress them out when you move rock to try and catch them. Anyway you look at it you will be taking risks.
