Fish suggestions?

Hey everyone,

Recently I lost my beloved 9 year old yellow tang After time passed, I've begun thinking of something to replace him with. I'd like to keep it to fairly small fish that doesn't get all that big, but it doesn't have to stay as small as a goby.

It's a 120 gallon tank (4x2x2). It's got a lot of depth which is nice, and gives a nice amount of space for fish to swim. So far I've got the following in there:

Fish
Maroon Clown- about 3''
Melnarus Wrasse-about 4''
Potter's Angel-about 2 1/2-3''

Coral/Misc.
Condi Anemone
2x RBTA's-split from 1
Elegance Coral
Frogspawn
Cabbage Coral
GSP
Duncans
Lobos
Toadstools
Multiple Mushrooms

The tank has a deep sand bed, and over 100 pounds of LR. I've got a Royal Exclusive Vortex Alpha 200 running on the tank as well.

I was thinking of possibly getting another potter's angel to pair with the male I already have. But I'm sure it's not 100% that they will pair up. I was also thinking of other dwarf angels such as the flame/coral beauty/ect,. I took a look at the smaller tangs as well (chevron, kole, PBT, ect.). I know the PBT gets big, but it does not get as big as the other side of the family.. (Hippo tang, orange shoulder, ect.)

I just thought I'd get some people's suggestions before I make a decision. I'm looking for bright colors and something that'll stand out.

Thanks for all the help!

Hey... I have the same question too.. maybe someone can help both of us..

I have a 120G 4'x2'x2'.. my current stocking is:

- Pair of Snowflake Occelaris (2.5" and 2")
- Pixy Hawkfish (2.5")
- Potters Angel (2.5")
- Sixline wrasse (1.5")
- Single Blue Chromis (1.5")

I tried adding a Pygmy Cherub Angel (2") a few weeks ago but he got getting nipped at big time by Potter. I removed him within the hour and gave it to a friend. Now looking for another addition.

I was thinking Purple Tang, larger Venutus Angel, or some type of large angel. I was looking at blue angel but they prolly will nip on the coral..

Looks like we're in the same boat:wave:

Yeah I was looking at maybe getting another angel but I worried about nipping and hostility between the two angels. (Exactly what you have gone through). I also looked at larger angels but they get big, and fast. I did think of getting a purple tang, but with the recent restrictions on imports from the Red Sea the cost has gone up considerably..

I don't mind taking risks and trying new things, that's what makes this hobby so addicting :uzi:

Oh and if you get another potters, they will may end up kill each other.. He went nuts on the Cherub Angel I tried putting in.

Yeah I understand the risk factor, but if I isolated the two and introduced them slowly I think it might work. Plus, if it's a male/female mix, there should be a greater chance of it working.

Yep, I think the male is the big one and the female is the small one (reverse of clownfish). The store I got mine had two at the time. I got the small female (2.5") and the male was like double that size!

Exactly. I know mine's a male due to the fact of his size and he's got more blue color to him. The female's tend to possess a duller blue color and more orange. (As well as smaller in size)

With any new fish introduction, there will be some aggression obviosuly. Just trying to make it as minimal as possible is the catch

I think I'm just going to pick up a purple tang. They're kinda steep but I like the color and size, and they dont nip on corals.

I read they are aggressive though.. will they beat up on smaller fish?

Nice choice! They'll pick on fish that are added after it is. So you should be good. But just watch for any aggression later down the line once it is acclimated to your system.

Wish I could get one but here, they go for double what a potter's costs!

Well.. I went to the LFS and looked at some purple tangs.. but I couldn't pull the trigger. I just don't think I like him enough lol..

While looking at him, I found another Venustus Angel and this one appears to be healthier than the other one I saw at a different LFS.... but I think im changing my mind about them too, so I dont want to get him either.

I saw a nice Orange Fin Tang (Tomini Tang) and I think thats the one.. hmm they look pretty cool in person. They're peaceful and not too big!

Haha sorry to hear about that! I did the same, but went to check out the potter's angel. I ended up pulling the trigger and brought the little guy back home. Unfortunately, the potter's I have already wasn't too fond of him.. He is now heading to my dad's 115.. :headwalls:

Looks like I'm back on the market for another fish.. no more angels for me..
