Fish superstore review

I went to the fish super store in Hoffman Estates today i think its called aquarium adventure, anyway it was awsome. the store was huge with a wide variety and very high quality selection of fish. there prices were outrageus at first but when you walk in your supposed to pick up a coupon sheet and it says all fish half off, actually the prices are average to decent when you pick up the half off sheet. Like I said it is totally worth it because of the wide selection and high quality. The only thing you could compare it to is nothing, but they have amazing fresh water supply and tanks that look like ones similar to ones at shed aquarium. In my mind it is awsome but I dont know about you so dont get your hopes to high and be dissapointed. I will post pictures of the square back male and female anthias I got today and the flame angel on my home site just click on the red house above although I probbaly wont load them till later.

I went in today after IMAC and to be honest I was really shocked at the prices. The selection was also poor and the coral selection consisted of mushrooms and more mushrooms. That my opinion but let me get you some facts.

Small (size of a quarter) Blue Tang $99
Med. Yellow Tang $80
Achilles Tang $150
Foxface $99
Flame Angel $90
Gold Puffer $799
Eight Line Wrasse $89
Mushroom rocks the size of a softball and ugly....get this... you wont believe it.....keep following the dots..........$139.

Unfortunately the shocking part was people were packed in the store and buying stuff. The health of the fish were same as every other Petland. The prices are actually more then Beyond the Reef and Livingsea. I was extremely dissapointed and I'm still shocked at the prices. Even with the 50% off coupon for livestock the fish are still more expensive then the other quality LFS at our disposal. I will go back, but just to laugh at the prices.

I loaded the pictures of the fish just click on the red house above and click on fish picks at the top when you get to the site. Also the prices were very high yes but thats why you were supposed to get the half off so then that blue tang would have been $50 For instance the male anthias I got was $70 and with the half off I paid $35 and the female which was $40 i paid $20 and the flame angel was $90 but I paid $45 There prices were only rediculus so they could have a half off sale. they didnt have alot of corals I will agree on that.

Well there is no point in the coupon if they are going to jack up the prices. That is not what constitutes a "sale". $50 for a blue tang is still too high, I bought one today for $18 at Sea Schor and I had previously bought a flame Angel at Sharkysreef for $28.

I got a 75 gallon all Glass aquarium for 81 with tax. I thought that was the best deal going. Now I have my sump.

Thats the whole reason I went in there also. for the 75 gallon. After I saw the prices on the livestock I just left.

If they run sales at half off all the time its reasonable but at regular price is very high. A average store for salt water people.
Hopefully they will lower prices to match the street price of fish and products. Otherwise we have another "beyond belief" type store

Well, it does not sound all that great from a selection or pricing perspective. They are trying to make us think they are giving us half off but in reality, even with the 50% discount, they are higher than most street prices. The price on the 75 gallon, however, seems really good. It is really too bad as it would have been nice to have another option that is reasonably close to where I live.

I thought the store size and tanks were very impressive.. Although, like the others.. prices are very very high. Hopefully they will come down after this whole grand opening thing..

I, along with just about eveybody else who lives within 50 miles, stopped by on Saturday to check it out.

They had a great tank selection and the prices seemed pretty good for them as well. It also seemed like they had a fairly decent variety of food, additives and other misc equipment and supplies but due to the amount of people there I didn't really stop to get a good look and see how much of it was for saltwater.

Like everyone else I noticed the absurdly high fish prices. The first one I looked at was a 6-7" (roughly) Imperator/Emperor angel for I think $699 or $799. Even with 50% off that's still about twice what it should be. After seeing the 1" blue hippo tangs for $99 I stopped looking at the prices except for the potters angel ($299 or $399, I think??) that they had way off in the back corner. I couldn't get a very good look at it because it was hiding behind one ridiculously obstructive fake bushy wide-leaf plants that they seemed fond of.

I didn't look at the freshwater section due to the crowd but I did wander over to the petland side for a few minutes (to watch the hot girls watch the puppies or whatever the hell they had over there). I must admit that I was really impressed by the one tank in the tunnel with the fake mangrove roots. It seemed to be a legitimately nice tank and like Drew said it reminded me of Shedd as well (though we'll see how long it stays this way).

Overall it was about what I was expecting from a place that had a guy in a Nemo costume and customers who pointed out how beautiful the (fake rubber yellow sponge) corals were in the display tank. I had to restrain myself from both laughing and crying when I heard some lady point those out :)

Like Zoalander I went over to Sea Schor to recover from the experience :)
